“We have nothing to fear but fear itself” . . . yeah right, I doubt FDR ever saw the waves that Ryan Hipwood and company drop. This short chronicles Ryan’s return to West Australia’s infamous wave, “The Right.” Two years ago, Hipwood nearly died riding this wave. Recently, he returned to conquer his watery foe—and you have to respect his resolve to ride this beast. Even if we haven’t had a brush with death, we’ve all waged similar battles. Whether puckered at the top of a gnarly line, dropping into a stout rapid, or rallying some steep singletrack, we can all empathize. And like Ryan’s return to “The Right,” hopefully these risks lead to great rewards.
