This is the moment we all dread. You're standing atop a glorious peak. Sweat, sunshine, and pride glisten on your face after scaling that insane approach. You gaze down in loving adoration at your dream couloir, the one you painstakingly skinned all the way up here for, nestled between that beautiful Swiss granite. Your buddy gives you a fist bump and you take one turn, two turns, and then your heart stops. A crack quickly radiates down from where your skis triggered an instability and the whole slope is sliding out from under you.
