VIDEO: Drew Petersen’s New Film Opens Up About Mental Health

With the overarching goal to help others, pro skier Drew Petersen bravely opens up about his mental health journey in his new film, “Ups and Downs.” As one of the first people in the outdoor media space to speak about mental health so deeply, Petersen opens up about the stark reality of his arduous journey of PTSD following a traumatic experience in the mountains, bipolar disorder, brain injury rehabilitation, and suicidal thoughts. Sharing the behind-the-scenes struggle of mental illness, it becomes clear that these issues are much more common than realized, especially in mountain towns where life is often portrayed idyllically. It’s a story about finding the light, healing both in the mountains and in therapy, and how giving voice to his struggles ultimately saved him. If you or someone you know is in need of mental health support, you can find resources here.
