VIDEO: Benedikt Böhm Skied Across the Alps In 36 Hours

I know, I know, skimo racing is super dorky. It involves Lycra, skinny skis, and lots of walking. But you have to admit, moving light and fast through the mountains is pretty impressive when it means you can traverse an ENTIRE mountain range in one push. Ski mountaineer and Dynafit GM Benedikt Böhm did just that last March, finishing a Transalp ski route in just under 36 hours. He’s skied Manaslu, set a speed record on Dhaulagiri VII, and done the whole Transalp thing before, so it’s no surprise that he came back and absolutely crushed this attempt.

This particular route covered 130 miles and nearly 46,000 vertical feet, how’s that for a ski tour? Oh yeah, and in case it wasn’t clear yet, it took Böhm less than 36 hours to get it done, walking from Bavaria to South Tyrol.
