Since its founding in 1941, Alta's Ski Patrol has become one of the foremost avalanche safety departments in the industry. The organization was the first in North America to use howitzers in avalanche mitigation, and was home to the continent's first avalanche dog. Considering that dogs and explosives are two of the coolest parts of being a ski patroller, those are pretty solid claims to fame, at least in our opinion.
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into keeping Alta safe through the lens of Sweetgrass Productions, the same production house behind Stone's Throw, Afterglow, and Darklight. It can be a cold, stressful, and risky job, but the rewards are more than worth the risks in the eyes of these elite patrollers.
