Video: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Legendary Alta Ski Patrol

Since its founding in 1941, Alta's Ski Patrol has become one of the foremost avalanche safety departments in the industry. The organization was the first in North America to use howitzers in avalanche mitigation, and was home to the continent's first avalanche dog. Considering that dogs and explosives are two of the coolest parts of being a ski patroller, those are pretty solid claims to fame, at least in our opinion.

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into keeping Alta safe through the lens of Sweetgrass Productions, the same production house behind Stone's ThrowAfterglow, and Darklight. It can be a cold, stressful, and risky job, but the rewards are more than worth the risks in the eyes of these elite patrollers.

The man is a living legend, so well-established in the ski world that a mere Instagram post is enough to warrant headlines across the industry. Mike King’s ‘Feast or Famine’ is a Delicious Slice of Life

Mike King’s ‘Feast or Famine’ is a Delicious Slice of Life

In a world of two-to-three minute ski edits, a sixteen-minute video stands out, especially when it's centered around a single skier. Sixteen minutes promises a story, not just a roughly cut sequence of cliff-drops and booter-hits. As such, I wasn't sure what to expect from Mike King's Too often, longer videos end with me thinking "that would have been better if it was a third as long." No such problem here. Mike King is a busy man, and sixteen minutes feels short, if anything.
