The unique landscapes that make up Southern Utah are typically dominated by dirt and rock, but this winter was not exactly a typical one in Utah. While the Wasatch Range struggled with low snow fall and warm temperatures a series of storms graced the high altitude red rock canyons near Brian Head and created some of the most unique skiing conditions on the planet. This March Will Howard, Loren Griswold and I were blessed with a once in a life time opportunity to ski in the dirty south, this is a recap of our journey.

Tragically this weekend, a snowboarder died in a tree well inbounds at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. While many of us might love skiing and riding in the trees (especially during dangerous avalanche conditions, when this can be a safer option), tree wells pose a real danger.
