The Athlete Edits: Ian Mcintosh

Like the other veterans of the TGR athlete roster, Ian Mcintosh is showing no signs of slowing down. Instead, he’s pushing himself in ways he never has before – both in the mountains and in his daily life. This season was all about finding a balance between spending time with his new daughter and continuing to pursue a career as one of the boldest skiers around. The BC native certainly stayed true to that reputation by teaming up with his teammates on The North Face squad - Sam Smoothy, Christina Lustenberger and Nick McNutt – to go on a freeride ski mountaineering tear in his home hills.

Having intimate knowledge of your local mountains goes a long way, especially when tackling high-consequence lines that involve technical climbing, a healthy amount of exposure, and require near-perfect conditions to pull off. Of course, Mac's Volkl skis setup was the perfect companion for these big missions. When things lined up outside of Pemberton, the crew fired up the sleds, packed their bags, and got booting up dreamy couloirs and faces reminiscent of their trip to Norway last year.

Elyse Saugstad: On My Own Terms

Who's the first female skier that comes to mind when you think of someone charging down a mountain and stomping cliffs with utter resilience and poise? We think of the legendary Elyse Saugstad. As a veteran ski racer turned big mountain freerider, she garnered a reputation for fast, technical descents on high-consequence terrain. In 2008, the Alaska native won the Freeride World Tour, the most prestigious accolade in competitive freeskiing. The following year she won the FWT's "Best Female

Watch Now: Saving Smoothy – Sam Smoothy’s Comeback

Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. 2019 was a pretty brutal year for Völkl's Sam Smoothy. A ski crash in Austria nearly killed him early in the season, and another later in the year sent him back to the hospital and questioning his career as a professional skier. Luckily, 2020 turned into a rebate year with an opportunity to get back into the flow of things during one of Jackson’s deepest storm cycles ever. We're stoked to have Smoothy back in the mountains with us, pushing the

Know what time of year it is, folks? That's right, it's Freeride World Tour time. Well, actually it's Freeride World Qualifier time, but that means it's almost Tour time. The first Qualifier event takes place in Hakuba Japan today. With better weather than they've seen the last couple of days and more snow than last year, we should see some incredible riding from the athletes. The rankings currently have Isaac Freeland and Arianna Tricomi in first for skiing and Nils Mindich and Marion Haerty
