This week, we caught up with our very own Tim Durtschi (who’s been busy training for the upcoming season in some unorthodox ways) at our Wilson, WY headquarters. He gave us the low down on what it was like working together with Kai Jones for Winterland, acting as a mentor and backcountry partner for Kai last season. The two stacked footage all over the Tetons before heading north to Girdwood, Alaska for the ultimate late-season heli sesh.

With lots of other fun things to deal with, like a communist dictatorship, a broken economy, and a problematic nuclear weapons program, to name a few, North Korea isn’t exactly known for its skiing. But don’t let those other things distract you, as the Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un reminds us, especially when the nation just unveiled a brand-new ski resort. The Yangdok Hot Spring Cultural Recreation Center just opened, with a ribbon cutting performed by none other than Mr. Kim himself.
Simply put, if you’ve never skied at night, we suggest you go out and do it right now. Hey, there’s even a full moon tonight, so that sounds like a great opportunity! Our friends over at El Flamingo made a short film to celebrate this unique experience. Improvisation is the silver thread that weaves this film together. Just as the Grateful Dead did not fit their music into an established category, this short film finds a cast of some of the world’s best athletes on an improvisational journey of skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and music, complete with a soundtrack comprised of only Grateful Dead music.
