"We didn't just want to ski it like a mountaineer, we wanted to rip the hell out of it."
High above Queenstown, New Zealand stands Mt. Aurum. It's a gnarly peak few have even skied, with the true line off the summit remaining untouched - until Sam Smoothy and Fraser Mcdougall found the perfect conditions to rip it at full speed.
Hitting it just once via heli wasn't enough for the boys, though, so they went back for an ever bigger accomplishment: summiting from the valley floor. Three days of hiking, one intense fall, and a lot of slough later, they had experienced one hell of an adventure. Watch Sam Smoothy in our upcoming ski film Winterland, premiering September 14th in Jackson Hole.
