Jim Ryan Goes on a GTNP Bender For Magic Hour

What’s the best thing about living in the Tetons during the winter? Well, there’s the deep pow, the die-hard ski community, and of course, unparalleled access to some of the best steep skiing in the world. For JHMR, Helly Hansen and Völkl Skis athlete Jim Ryan, this year was all about pushing his limits high up in the alpine, bringing his hard-charging approach to skiing into some of our home range’s most daring lines. While it's really insanely gnarly and techy ski mountaineering, Jim makes riding these lines look like a run down a FWT venue. Lucky for him, conditions lined up in a way to grant access to the high peaks in mid-winter, with stable avalanche conditions, and the type of snow surfaces he prefers most – firm, and a bit chalky for carving high-speed turns through tight terrain. Catch some of the action from his exploits in Grand Teton National Park, ticking off classic line after classic line in his Magic Hour athlete edit. Make sure to see his full segment, alongside Nat Murphy and more in Magic Hour. The film is on tour now, so get your tickets at tour.tetongravity.com.

What’s the first band that comes to mind when you think about the TGR’S films? A few might come to mind, but if you really sit down and crunch the numbers, the answer might surprise you. The electronic duo, ODESZA, and Teton Gravity Research have a long standing relationship. One might say it all began after a night at the Mangy Moose in 2014, but Jackson local and ODESZA manager Adam Foley said that it’s been a thing of fate for the two powerhouses to collaborate since the conception of

VIDEO: Step Into the Mind of Michael “Bird” Shaffer

We’ve seen a lot from steep skiing and speed flying superstar Michael Bird Shaffer over the last few years – whether it’s exploits high in the mountains of Chamonix, or skiing scary lines in the North Cascades. But his story is pretty different from most who roam this earth.  From Black Crows: Born into an atypical family, a fighter pilot father who left everything behind to follow his wife to a hippie project in the hills of Washington, Michael Shaffer was raised free and happy, close to
