While we’ve been enjoying the heat of summer in all sorts of forms here in the Tetons, whether it’s dusty singletrack, refreshing river runs, or solitude on some remote summit, we can’t deny getting the itch for some winter fun. Luckily, our friends over at Black Crows have a temporary scratch for that itch, with this tasty ski line from Yannick Boissenot somewhere in the mountains of France. It’s complete with everything we’ve come to expect from him: ropes, pointy sh*t, and some really gnarly steep skiing.
Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. 2019 was a pretty brutal year for Völkl's Sam Smoothy. A ski crash in Austria nearly killed him early in the season, and another later in the year sent him back to the hospital and questioning his career as a professional skier. Know what time of year it is, folks? That's right, it's Freeride World Tour time. Well, actually it's Freeride World Qualifier time, but that means it's almost Tour time. The first Qualifier event takes place in Hakuba Japan today. With better weather than they've seen the last couple of days and more snow than last year, we should see some incredible riding from the athletes. Coming from someone who lost half of her favorite pair of ski socks last night (Smartwool x Chris Bentchetler's, of course), I'm not really sure if there ever is a good time for matching socks. But there's definitely a time to break out of your every day routine and do or find or send something new. That's exactly what the Bunch was after with their new film. For them, it's easy to get into the routine of making ski films, so with this one they sought to break the mold, and boy did they.
