The athletes aren’t the only stars of our movies, it’s the locations, too. Every year we’re on the hunt for new zones to film in, often finding ourselves in some wild part of the world with far too many camera bags. This year—for obvious reasons—film production faced unprecedented challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, we already bagged our segments abroad before travel ground to a stop. This year we traveled to Japan with Atomic's Tim Durtschi and Kai Jones, as well as, Volkl's Colter Hinchliffe. We also hit up some exciting new zones in British Columbia with our North Face athlete team. When we couldn't travel abroad, staying closer to home worked in our favor, allowing us to discover hidden gems in Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Aspen, and Montana.

Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. 2019 was a pretty brutal year for Völkl's Sam Smoothy. Know what time of year it is, folks? That's right, it's Freeride World Tour time. Well, actually it's Freeride World Qualifier time, but that means it's almost Tour time. The first Qualifier event takes place in Hakuba Japan today.
