It takes a special kind of person to look at a 60-foot tall parking structure or bell-tower and think: "You know what, I'm going to climb that." Some might call such a person foolhardy, and the naysayers wouldn't be too far off the mark—buildering is both dangerous and illegal. However, it is also creative and visually striking, and unlikely to threaten anyone other than the builderer.
Whether you're inspired or shocked by buildering, it's an undeniably provocative sport. For the moment, it seems that only a few brave souls are pushing the limits of what counts as rock climbing, but perhaps our cities will be full of well-established routes in a few years.
