Climbing Everest is no cheap expenditure. At the minimum, It will roughly cost you $35,000 to attempt the summit, according to Time Magazine. For those aspiring mountaineers strapped on cash we’ve got good news—a team of climbers just stowed $50,000 in cryptocurrency at the top. You just have to be the first to find it.
In a blatant publicity stunt, the money was left to promote the California-based social networking site, ASKFm. According to Outside Magazine, a team representing the site buried a package up at the 29,029-foot summit. Inside lies a solitary ASKT token—their latest Initial Coin Offering—which is currently valued at a whopping $50,000.
While the entire stunt seems a bit cringe-worthy, it's worth noting that stashing away this treasure trove of crypto-currency was no small task: One of the mountaineers had severe enough frostbite that he was helicoptered off the mountain. Thankfully the whole team made it safely down, and without serious injuries. Because the last thing they needed was some bad press.
