Curious Bear Cub’s Fate Remains Uncertain

An adorable black bear cub took the internet world by storm last week when it was filmed investigating a few snowboarders at Northstar Resort. Despite the human-bear interaction's innocent appearance, there are troubling implications for the curious cub.

Bear cubs that become normalized to humans have two fates: transported to a wildlife sanctuary or euthanized. Hopefully for this little guy, it’s option one. The bear cub has been roaming around solo because its mother was believed to be killed. However, despite its adorableness, we shouldn’t be treating it like a teddy bear. In fact, with an encounter like this it’s best to either not interact with the animal at all or try to scare it away.
