City of Santa Cruz Reopens Parks and Beaches

The City of Santa Cruz has reopened parks, beaches, and some recreation facilities as of April 16th, 2020, according to a City press release. Social Distancing and Shelter-In-Place Orders are still in effect, and should be followed strictly, but this presumably medically-sound decision seems like a big step in the right direction. Obviously, recreationalists in the area should still be taking extra care to avoid adding to the medical system's burden.

"As the Santa Cruz County temporary park/beach closure is slated to expire on April 15 at 11:59 p.m., the public is reminded that State and County Shelter-In-Place and Social Distancing Orders remain in effect and will continue to be enforced in the City of Santa Cruz.

While outdoor exercise is considered an essential activity, it should be done close to home. Residents are advised to use outdoor City facilities within their neighborhoods. Travelling to a destination for exercise continues to be considered non-essential.
