Bear Attack in Grand Teton National Park Leaves Man Hospitalized, Marks First of the Season

A man was attacked by a bear on Sunday afternoon, May 19, as confirmed to Buckrail by GTNP Chief of Staff Jeremy Barnum. He has since been hospitalized and is in stable condition.

The man was reportedly attacked on Signal Mountain in the Summit Road hiking area in Grand Teton National Park. Details about the species of the bear and if the victim was alone have not yet been released. The victim is a 35-year-old man from Massachusetts, according to Barnum.

Since the attack, the entire Signal Mountain area has been closed to public entry east of Teton Park Road as authorities investigate.
