Swiss Scientists Set Off Mega Avalanche For Science

Deep in the Swiss Alps lies a mountain that the Swiss Avalanche Institute (SLF) uses to conduct research on everything snow science. A few days ago, scientists set off a massive avalanche in the name of science, and here’s the footage they released. The slide was triggered from explosives thrown from a helicopter, slid approximately 2.5 kilometers to the valley floor, and was the largest avalanche the area had seen in 11 years. Nobody was hurt in the controlled slide. The SLF conducts worldwide leading research on snow stability and avalanche safety, and provides a daily report on avalanche conditions in the Swiss Alps.
