UCI Downhill Racing Has A Brand-New Track this Season

After a winter season of relaxation and training, the world’s fastest downhill racers will line up yet again to start the 2018 UCI DH season at the top of a brand-new track in Lošinj, Croatia. Never heard of it? Well, the track was only recently finished, and judging by what we have seen, it will be particularly gnarly for racers.

After racing down the never-ending rock garden of a track, will racers be able to take a dip in the Adriatic?

It winds down a steep mountainside on an island in the middle of the Adriatic Sea, and was almost entirely built by hand, a departure from the usual machine-built bike park tracks we have been seeing on the World Cup circuit. Following a common trend, there seems to even some urban riding at the bottom. Check out this behind-the-scenes peek at what went into building the track.

YT’s Angel Suarez drops in on a course preview, showing us that the track is basically one never-ending rock garden, with sharp point things literally everywhere waiting to eat up wheels and tires. Suspension settings? Who knows what we will see.

The race is scheduled for April 21-22.
