Japan isn’t on most people’s radars when it comes to mountain biking. The country has all the right ingredients to have a thriving bike community, but digging new trails means navigating through lots of red tape with the government, often deterring most trail builders from even trying. Not Ryo Hazuma. He’s spent almost a decade earning the respect of the officials in the Minami Alps to build a whole network of trails, some even in a world UNESCO heritage site. His hard work is paving the way for the next generation of Japanese mountain bikers, and some amazing looking trails.
