Greg Minnaar Splits DH Bike in Half in Val di Sole Crash and other Carnage

Today was practice day for the athletes, and the Val di Sole DH track has already claimed a few victims, including Greg Minnaar’s Santa Cruz V10 bike. In a high-speed crash during qualifying, the rider went over the bars at warp speed and snapped his frame clean in half. It looked like he hit a loose rock and slammed into a tree. Somehow, Minnaar managed to get up and walk away unscathed, even signing a few autographs for fans while he waited for his team to arrive. His bike was not so lucky. Santa Cruz’s carbon is normally pretty strong, but not much can hold up to lateral impacts from a tree at race speeds. Perhaps they should start making their bikes out of whatever Greg Minnaar is made of instead.
