In the three years I spent working at a bike park, I was privileged to spend a lot of time with our trail crew learning how they chose their lines and seeing how much knowledge and creativity went into each section of trail. The art and science of trail building is so much more than moving dirt and rock—it can be likened to writing: just as an author can pick out specific words to create a compelling voice, a skilled trail builder detects nuances in the terrain and uses them create flow.
Scott Secco's first full-length mountain bike movie "Builder" is dedicated to telling the story of trail building through the eyes of some of the sport’s best riders and most respected builders. This film is high on my list of must-sees this spring and it should probably be on yours, too. The trailer alone will give you chills.
