Action sports photographer Sam Saskia Dugon spends most of her time chasing the world’s best mountain bike athletes on her bike with her camera bag in tow. Her latest film project Back On the Bike, however, follows a much different kind of adventure. It’s a story about getting her mom Margie back on the saddle after not riding a bike for over 20 years.
Sam and Margie have always had a close relationship, which grew even closer after the passing of Sam’s Dad/Margie’s partner. On top of this, Margie has also battled cancer, and the combination of it all has taken a toll on her confidence and adventurous spirit. Sam saw this bikepacking trip as an opportunity to change that. With a little help from an eJimi electric mountain bike, Sam and her mum headed for Llangollen in North Wales for a three-day adventure. What ensues next is a touching story about pushing limits and rediscovering what’s possible. Ultimately you’re never too old to get back on that saddle, but if there’s anything to take away from Sam and Margie it’s that it helps to have someone to encourage you to start.
