We all know Travis Rice as one of the best snowboarders in the world, but in was last year's Red Bull Media House film The Fourth Phase we were introduced to Travis as an experienced sailor. For his latest expedition, Rice grabbed big-wave surfer Ian Walsh, friend Graham Scott, and cameraman Amory Ross and set sail on his trusty Catamaran Falcor for a 2500 nautical mile voyage from Tahiti to Hawaii.
Travis and the crew's journey was two-part: To see if the remote Line Islands offer any surf, and to collect water samples every 100 miles which they would send into adventure scientists to test for microplastics. Surf was found, and unfortunately so were microplastics. Even in some of the most remote water on earth, of the 22 water samples taken on the voyage, 73% contained microplastics.
