One Death And A World Record As Over 150 Paragliders Land On Mont Blanc

With a heatwave sweeping over the Alps, paragliders from across the globe took to the skies around the Mont Blanc Massif to take advantage of the exceptional thermals. Temperatures sat at a comfortable 50 degrees on the summit, allowing an estimated 150-200 paragliders to rise over 6,500 feet to reach the peak, consequently setting a record for most to land on the highest point in Western Europe.

Unfortunately a French flier reportedly died on the Italian side of the mountain after taking off from the summit. In response to the incident, authorities in Chamonix and Saint-Gervais banned paragliders from landing within 600m of Mont Blanc’s peak the day after the record was set.

Six amateur rafters are lucky to be alive after accidentally floating over a waterfall in Pennsylvania's Ohiopyle State Park. The waterfall is a 'no-boating zone,' marked by a number of upstream signs warning boaters of the downstream falls. Unfortunately, the rafters didn't see the signs until it was too late, according to Pittsburgh's WTAE. Video: Australian Pow Day

Australian Ski Resort Thredbo received over 33 inches of snow this past weekend as Antarctic storms tore into the continent. Putting together a pow day edit to prove Australians can rip more than just liquid water, it’s difficult not to feel tinges of jealousy as ski season kicks into gear for the Australians. Located in the Highlands of Southeast Australia, Thredbo is one of the premier resorts of the continent, and has the longest runs in Australia.  Thredbo Trail Map. Photo: Thredbo
