WATCH: What it’s Like Surfing Arctic Winters When There’s Only Three Hours of Sunlight

If you surf much, chances are you probably have a few gripes about your local break.

Maybe it's too fickle. Maybe you find yourself lamenting with the salty old dudes in the lineup that "it never used to be this crowded." Maybe the wave just isn't that great.

If ever you find yourself bitching, then please, watch this short from our Norwegian friend–surf filmmaker Hallvard Kolltveit–whose new film "Arctic January" documents the astounding commitment surfers in the Lofoten archipelago in Norway. Between 40-degree ocean temperatures and winter days that only encompass a few hours of sunlight, if you're going to surf Lofoten, you have to really want to surf Lofoten.
