From Oceanside grom to 4th in the world doesn’t exactly say it all…
Though Caity Simmers did indeed grow up surfing Oceanside and does indeed hold 4th place standing on the WSL, that’s not nearly all this youngster is about.
At only 18 years of age, Caity has established herself as a major player in the free surfing, pro surfing and surf film worlds. A true individual, Caity hasn’t any interest in following any sort of status quo. As her coach puts it, “this girl’s got something that’s a little different from the rest.” After turning down an offer to join the WSL two seasons ago (electing to produce her own film with a gaggle of her buddies instead), she came to the Tour the next year and placed fourth as a rookie! Her style blurs the line between free and pro surfing in a way we haven’t seen on the Tour since the likes of Rob Machado.
Caity, as one Oside local puts it, is the pride of the town. Whether we’re hearing from Caity through her free surf film projects with her company, Toasted Media, or following her on the pro circuit, or whatever else she might find herself getting into, we can be sure that her’s will be a household name in surfing for years to come.
