The DIY aspect of action sports has always showcased athletes as true artists and craftsman. Whether your shoveling snow for a booter, cutting out a grip tape job on your skateboard or hand-shaping a surfboard, the satisfaction of riding something with your own personal imprint is unbeatable.
The Vans Duct Tape festival is a celebration of just that; organically creating and then riding something that has someone's own personal craft and flavor on it. Four surfers get to hand shape two boards each, bring them to the North Shore of Oahu for Vans Surf team members to test and ride, and leave them behind for the general public to ride.
Unfortunately, Dane Reynolds was unable to make it to Oahu with his boards due to the California wildfires, but Nathan Fletcher, Wade Goodall, and Alex Knost were able to put their creations to the test at the pumping breaks of Haleiwa Beach Park this winter. Watch what unfolded and go get your hands dirty and shape a surfboard!
