Remembering Andy Irons: The Best Wave of My Life Courtesy of Andy

“What are you doing? Get out there!” If Andy Irons ever told you that, you better have listened. That’s exactly what happened to Andy’s high school history teacher Scott Cramer one October day in the early 2000s, the day he considers the best barrel ride of his life. During that particular school break with everyone out surfing, Cramer showed up on the beach right as a massive south swell hit the West Side. Looking at the waves, Cramer watched Andy lay down his trademark style and end with a massive board-snapping wipeout. After coming back in, Andy came up to his teacher and with a “Mr. Cramer! You gotta get out there!” the day’s fate was sealed.
