Bryan Iguchi and Cam Fitzpatrick have long had a mentor/mentee relationship in the mountains. Fitzpatrick was raised in Iguchi's adopted home of Jackson Hole and they built their relationship in the backcountry, the older rider sharing the secrets and tips that come from years of riding these legendary mountains. More recently, Fitzpatrick has found offseason purpose at Crossfit Jackson Hole at Teton Sports Club.
The same movement that has created heroes of such figures as Rich Froning and Mat Fraser is now helping some of Jackson's snowboarders prepare for the rigors of the mountains. Under the tutelage of Teton Sports Club trainer, Tim Gibbons, Fitzpatrick has spent the past years training in the gym so he can perform in the mountains. More recently he has brought Iguchi into the gym so they can train together.
When we met up with the pair the workout of the day (WOD) was "Adrian". This workout is named after U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Adrian Elizalde, 30, of North Bend, OR, of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). He died on August 23, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device.
