Ayumu Hirano is the First Snowboarder to Ever Land Back-to-Back 1440s

History was made Sunday at the 2018 Winter X Games as Ayumu Hirano became the first snowboarder to ever land back-to-back 1440s in a halfpipe competition, scoring a near-perfect 99.00 and claiming the gold medal at the X Games Snowboard SuperPipe competition.

The 19-year-old Japanese wunderkind was already sitting on a score of 96.66 and in first place as he went into his third and final run, but as noted in the video, had to worry about Scotty James–who was in second at the time–stealing the podium from him if he didn't toss something big. He rose to the occasion, allowing us fans the pleasure of listening to Craig McMorris absolutely lose his mind on air, and we are all better for that.
