Popular Stories
Investigations are underway into the helicopter crash that killed three people and injured four others last Monday. The Northern Escape Heli Skiing helicopter went down in the Skeena mountains some 50 kilometers northwest of Terrace, BC. The company said in a statement that while eliminating all risk is "impossible," the industry does its best to mitigate" it with knowledge and expertise.
A representative of HeliCat Canada, Ross Cloutier, explained that there are a multitude of factors that can increase or decrease risk when heliskiing, weather being the biggest. While accidents like this are exceedingly rare, enthusiasts should always be aware that heliskiing is inherently risky, even under ideal circumstances. The cause of the crash in this instance remains unknown and is under investigation.
