Ever wonder where the longest ski line in the world is? Well, last year Arc'Teryx athlete Janelle Smiley, her husband Mark and their close friend Jed Porter set out to answer that exact question.

The found the answer to their question on the border between Alaska and the Yukon is defined by several massive glaciated peaks, including Mt. St. Elias, home to an 18,000-foot ski descent from the summit all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

In 2017, Janelle and Mark Smiley, along with friend Jed Porter, set off the climb and ski the peak. After getting dropped off on the beach at the foot of the mountain, it took them several days to reach 16,400 feet. Here, they made the decision to leave their skis behind due to icy conditions that would have made skiing the upper mountain suicidal. Without the weight of skis on their back, they were able to quickly summit and descend back to their gear, and skied back down as far as they snow would let them.
