Admittedly, freeride skiing is still a new sport. Especially when you compare it to the storied and centuries-long histories of the small towns in the Alps that have helped shape it into what it is today. Swiss freerider Jeremie Heitz perhaps knows the importance of that connection better than most as it’s also his personal story – as one the true pioneers of the sport, he progressed his skiing in and around one of these small Swiss towns, Les Marécottes. Over the past 22 years, he’s gone from conquering the larger peaks within the resort, to seeking something bigger, better, more challenging than ever before. These days, even after ripping the massive faces of the biggest peaks in the Alps, he still finds time to return to his original stomping grounds and reconnect with his history.
