82 Winters Wise In Telluride: William “Senior” Mahoney

Man, there's really nothing like an old wise man telling you how good it was back in the day. Throw on some sentimental music, and black and white shots of joyful 1950's powder skiing shots and this will make you feel all warm inside.

Before Telluride, Colorado looked like a ski town straight out of a Patagonia catalogue, it was a working-class mining town, with no actual ski resort. William "Senior" Mahoney recalls, "We didn't have all that fancy stuff they have now, but you know the thing is when you're out on a pair of skis coming down through the powder you don't care about those things, you say 'woopie-woopie!' and away we go."

William "Senior" Mahoney has been a skier for over 82 years, and has the same hunger and addiction to skiing as all of us, and we can thank him for keeping skiing alive in the San Juans.
