The NY Times Explores the Filming of Free Solo

When Jimmy Chin and his wife Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi set out to make a film about Alex Honnold’s climbing three years ago, they knew exactly what they were in for. Honnold, as the world’s premiere free soloist, was toeing a fine line with death during his record-breaking climbs. Hanging off the edge of the cliff, in intimate close quarters with Honnold, Chin and his crew of filmmakers knew they had to be ready for the worst case. What if he falls?
