Exciting news from Alaska's Katmai National Park: Bear #747 has been spotted taking a nap alongside the river. For the uninitiated, 747 is an adult male bear regularly spotted fishing Brooks River. The Park Service's 2019 Bear Book describes him as "one of the largest, heaviest bears to use Brooks River," and goes on to note that "he was beaten out for 'Fattest Bear' contest the last couple of years due to popularity or the angle of photographs. He vows to make another run in 2019." We all know how annoying it is to be photographed at an unflattering angle, so we're pulling for 747 to win it all during this year's 'Fattest Bear' contest. To be honest, though, 747 seems to be well on his way with or without our thoughts and prayers.
