Video: Great White Shark Attacks Seal In Front of Tourist Boat

It’s not news that a substantial great white shark population has set up shop along the Eastern Seaboard, reaching as far up as New Brunswick. Surfers and other beachgoers have been faced with signs at beaches warning them of the dangers of a shark encounter, and last summer a bodyboarder was killed in a shark attack in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. Shark attacks are still extremely rare, as sharks much prefer seals over humans, and typically mistake us as prey when attacks do occur. Statistically, your odds of a deadly encounter are 1 in 11.5 million, similar to the odds of a deadly bear or rattlesnake attack.

Regardless, seeing a great white hunting in the wild is a sight to see, and this lucky passenger on a tourist boat in Canada captured footage of a shark attacking a seal.
