An Entire Mountainside Just Collapsed in The Swiss Alps

Turns out mountains are pretty fragile creatures. We tend to think of them as sturdy mounds of rock that never move, but sometimes the unthinkable happens, and an entire mountain face will spontaneously collapse. This is exactly what happened yesterday morning in Val Bregaglia in the Swiss Alps, when the NE face of Piz Cengalo gave way, causing a rockslide and ensuing debris flow in the valley that moved an estimated 4 million cubic meters of material. According to local news, eight people are still missing after the valley was evacuated by authorities.
