Amazon To Make Tiny Swedish Ski Hill 30 Feet Taller

Yep, you read that right. Amazon, skiing, vertical feet?

Amazon is building a massive data center an hour west of Stockholm in the city of Eskilstuna, Sweden. Home to Vilsta ski resort and the Tunafors Ski Club, the town is in for a surprising bonus next winter thanks to the massive online retailer: an extra 30 vertical feet as rock masses from the construction site are moved to the top of the ski hill.

In a nod to the environment, before the 105,000 tons of rock could be moved, the debris had to be tested for pollutants. After samples were tested and approved, heavy equipment moved in and started moving the mountains of rock. Amazon donated the excess rock, saving the ski area an estimated $1.6 Million in construction costs.

The mountain’s extra 30 vertical feet will add 230 feet of actual ski slope, enough for the mountain to complete a longstanding project for a giant slalom course, and a new terrain park a economic plus in ski-racing-crazed Sweden.
