Here’s a quick reminder of how scary whitewater kayaking can turn in an instant. Paddler Archer McLeay was running BC’s Ryan River when he took the wrong line and ended up getting swallowed by an undercut he didn’t even realize was there. Miraculously, after realizing there was no way to roll up, he pulled his skirt and swam to a pocket of air and light he saw at the back of the cave. It led to an exit and he crawled back up on to the river bank, giving his buddies a real scare.
His filmer Dan Sutherland shares:
''We were paddling on the Ryan river outside of Pemberton B.C, i decided to film the second lap and after a slight miscommunication i was starting the camera on the tripod when i saw Archie (Archer) paddling through the shot on the drone tilting up the camera just in time to watch him disappear under the rock where he remained out of site for the next 50 seconds before crawling out where you'd least expect it, with no injuries and spirits still high it was about as lucky as it gets!"
