With a heatwave sweeping over the Alps, paragliders from across the globe took to the skies around the Mont Blanc Massif to take advantage of the exceptional thermals. Temperatures sat at a comfortable 50 degrees on the summit, allowing an estimated 150-200 paragliders to rise over 6,500 feet to reach the peak, consequently setting a record for most to land on the highest point in Western Europe.

Unfortunately a French flier reportedly died on the Italian side of the mountain after taking off from the summit. In response to the incident, authorities in Chamonix and Saint-Gervais banned paragliders from landing within 600m of Mont Blanc’s peak the day after the record was set.
