VIDEO: Reframing Disability in the Outdoors on Mt. Moran

Last winter, Vasu Sojitra made history with the first disabled descent of Mount Moran alongside his friends Emilé Zynobia and Zahan Billimoria – but his goal wasn’t to be “inspirational,” in fact Sojitra wants to reshape the whole conversation about disability in the mountains. For context, skiing off the summit of Mount Moran requires a six-mile crossing of Jackson Lake, and a steep 6,000-foot snow climb to reach the top. The climb and descent were captured in ASCEND, a story with the goal to allow audiences to see themselves fully reflected in ski and snowboard film history. Sojitra believes everyone should feel a sense of community and belonging in the outdoors, and encourages others to be inspired to take action, harness the privilege that come with your identity, and use your power to support others.
