Video: Mammut’s Barryvox S Beacon in Action

Every December, TGR athletes and production crews gather for our annual International Pro Riders Workshop (IPRW) to brush up on avalanche rescue, medical, and general mountain safety skills. This year, we were supported by our friends at Mammut, who introduced us to the powerful technology in their new Barryvox S avalanche beacon. The most important component to any avalanche rescue is dialing in your systems through constant practice with your equipment. Knowing how to effectively use a beacon, probe, and shovel can shave minutes off a real rescue time, greatly increasing the chances of the buried victim’s survival.

At IPRW 2020 hosted at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, we set up a beacon drill tournament, pitting four teams against each other to compete for the fastest time uncovering two fully buried “victims.” Check out the action above.
