For most of us US-based downhill racing fans, we’ve been sh*t out of luck for the past few years when it comes to watching racing on our home turf. The last time the UCI held a downhill race in the ol’ US of A was in 2015 at New York’s Windham Moutnain. Thanks to the hard work of the likes of Neko Mulally and friends, that is set to change this weekend with the final stop of the UCI DH World Cup in Snowshoe, West Virginia. A hotbed of local DH racing for years, the track got super-sized and is ready to host the world’s fastest racers this weekend.
As always, Gee Atherton shows us what lies in wait on the all-new track with his POV course preview. While Atherton describes the first gnarly sections as “just a few little rocks, nothing too wild,” that quickly changes in the wet rocks down low to “oh my god, I can’t talk, as I have no idea what I’m doing.” Goes to show what the pros are up against.
