Newport Beach, California's "The Wedge" is renowned as one of the state's most unstable and unpredictable shore breaks. Even on a "normal" day, it's a great place to break your board and get slammed straight into the sand. July 4th, 2020 was far from normal, with forecasts calling for some of the biggest waves in years.

Despite the closure of LA's beaches, a number of surfers woke up early and headed down to the unusually violent break, resulting in one of the most entertaining Wedge sessions we've seen.
