They say convenience is king.
Uber announced a new seasonal feature on Thursday called Uber Ski. The service is aimed at making travel to ski resorts easier for riders carrying gear. Available now through March, Uber Ski operates access to nearly 40 mountains across the U.S., Canada, Switzerland, and France.
As part of the rollout, Uber is collaborating with Vail Resorts. By tapping Uber Ski in the standard Uber app, users can now book transport to Vail-owned destinations with the guarantee that the car fits both them and their gear. Users can also purchase Epic Passes and day lift tickets within the platform.
Riders can reserve two types of larger vehicles designed to accommodate skis, snowboards, and mountain roads:
- UberXL: Fits two passengers with gear
- UberXXL: Fits four passengers with gear
Both options can be reserved up to 90 days in advance.
In its announcement, Uber said the new feature is designed for skiers and snowboarders looking for a more streamlined way to reach mountain destinations. Expanded cargo space and integrated pass purchasing are central features.

What It Means for Skiers
Between shoveling the driveway, parking, and public transit, the shlep to a crowded mountain can be a serious undertaking. Uber Ski adds another transportation option to the mix one that could be especially valuable for travelers or riders heading to resorts without a vehicle.
It’s not likely to replace the tried and true dawn patrol carpool. Still, Uber Ski could be a useful convenience for those who want to skip rental cars and parking lots. Whether it becomes a staple of ski-day logistics remains to be seen, but it certainly gives riders another way to reach the mountains.
