Tropical Sagas in the North Atlantic: Ski Touring in Iceland

April 2018. Iceland. The land of missing vowels, one-lane tunnels that host two-way traffic, and skiing lines as far as the mind can fathom. This waterfall studded land of glacial majesty has long delivered mind-bending natural beauty, but it is now also known to host some of the greatest spring skiing on the planet. Ribbons of snow stretch to connect rocky summits with calm blue fjords. Pretty memories of a fading winter to many, these vestiges of snow are those of a skier’s dream. Fueled by hotdogs and sketchy information researched on the web, we sought out to explore this bounty of human-powered skiing in both Iceland’s West Fjords and northern Troll Peninsula.
