We’ve all been there. The forecast is calling for a foot of fresh, but your entire crew bails at the last minute. Suddenly, you’re facing a solo mission and another expensive tank of gas. A new app called Shredder aims to make that scenario a thing of the past.
Launched on August 7, Shredder is a free iOS-based platform built by riders, for riders. Developed by skier Alfred Arnaud and snowboarder Brody Sanchez, the app is designed to tackle two of the biggest hurdles in snow sports today: the rising costs and the growing sense of isolation. “We want to make skiing feel like a community again,” Arnaud said.

So, how does it work? Shredder’s standout feature is an AI-powered matching system that connects you with other skiers and snowboarders who ride at a similar skill level. No more getting stuck waiting for your beginner buddy or trying desperately to keep up with a pro. The app also features offline-capable GPS tracking to log all your essential metrics—speed, vertical drop, runs, and distance—that syncs up whenever you get a signal.
Beyond just finding a partner for the day, the app is a full-fledged organizational tool. Users can host group sessions, find new partners, and, most importantly, coordinate carpools. The carpooling feature is central to the founders' mission, aiming to cut down on costs and the number of single-occupancy vehicles jamming up resort parking lots.
The best part? It’s completely free. Co-founder Brody Sanchez confirmed that Shredder will remain “free forever,” with no subscription models or premium tiers.

The app is currently live for the Southern Hemisphere season, with its initial rollout focused on New Zealand's hotbeds like Queenstown and Wānaka. For those of us up north, the wait won't be long, the team plans to expand to Northern Hemisphere markets just in time for the 2025–26 winter season.
“We’re building this with you, not for you,” Arnaud added, emphasizing the community-first approach.
Shredder is available now for free on the iOS App Store.
