The Illusion of Safety: Social Media and Backcountry Skiing

Enticed by pristine, highly satisfying social media clips, more folks than ever are venturing out into the backcountry. Watching glorious, perfectly cut reels spit out online by professional athletes and media houses, many people have no clue about the thousands of hours of avalanche and safety training that make these images possible. Entire safety crews are on standby to keep athletes and filmers safe. 

Staying mindful of what we see and post on social media can go a long way in keeping everyone safe, from skiers to rescuers. 

In partnership with Friends of Bridger-Teton, TGR presents Backcountry Responsibility, a digital film targeted at the growing number of winter backcountry users whose impact on the surrounding public lands has increased dramatically in recent years.
